Worst Day

For Real Poetic's Anniversary Acrostic Challenge

By Savannah K. WilsonPublished 2 years ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read
remembering the worst day of the year

All these years without you, I still feel lost and afraid

No one to hold me when scared of the storms and night

Never will be there to walk me down wedding’s aisle

Injustice, thy name is cancer, and you took him from me

Victim of cruel fate and this broken world, gone forever

Every year that passes becomes easier yet harder

Raging guilt when I don’t spend enough time dwelling

Slipping into depression when too long the dark thoughts stay

After twenty-one years I still miss you like that teen-aged day

Rocked from my secure footing, despite foreknowledge, still not ready

You were my protector, I was not done needing you … my dad

====================================================

The anniversary of losing my dad is this month (25th July 2003)

I am raising money to help those affected by cancer by taking part in Dry July in his memory. If you feel able to, any and all donations appreciated, but not expected. 🩷
