A Sonnet for Writers

If the world you knew and loved is no more
Pulverized by plague or war or famine
You can slam denial’s obstinate door
But it opens, as facts you examine

When it does, bitter rage will blunder in
If it does not boil you into a mist
Bargaining for survival will begin
But the status quo laughs as you insist

Saturnine melancholy will follow
But before you succumb to the grey gloom
Writing can help; do not merely wallow
Put your mind to imagination’s loom

If the world as it stands betrays and wounds
Weave a fresh, beautiful new one, from words

I write because my time is limited and my imagination is not.

OMG! I love this so much. Too old for OMg-ing but this is so great. Imagine being so ticked off by this realm that I can weave myself a new one and just hop on over. The premise is very inviting. Gorgeous indeed.
Imagination definitely is a very powerful tool. I often use it to escape reality. Loved your poem!
Succinct and inspiring, this poem promotes the creative process of writing. It takes the reader on a brief ride through overcoming uncertainty and basking in the light of knowing.
