Wolf Among Sheep

She seeks you out
A wolf among sheep
Seeking satiation
Satisfaction, however fleeting
She hungers more
Than she hunts
Her ribs a mirrored wall
Reflecting wounds in steam
Starvation should make
Her desperate but
Isolated she knows not
What comes for her beyond
The valley of dreams
So she continues
To hunger
Wandering alone among sheep
Hoping one has fangs

Morphed as it was by the strange magic of the Kalmera Forest, there was still something so eerily familiar about it that had every trigger-happy, sword-swinging monster hunter in that clearing stand up on their toes just a little bit more.

FPS: The Last Flame Challenge Winners
Welcome to our first Winners Announcement of the year and to the final challenge in the Fall Poetry Series. The Last Flame invited writers to sit with endings, using fire as a central image to consider what remains when something burns out: ash, warmth, memory, silence, or the faint promise of what comes next. The strongest pieces treated endings as gradual rather than sudden, allowing them to flicker, dim, and linger.
