WOE OF A FILIPINO ARCHITECT
By Crizalde A. Umali

In the realm of dreams, where visions take flight,
A Filipino architect, with all their might,
Crafts blueprints and dreams in the soft moonlight,
Yet struggles in silence through the darkest night.
With passion ablaze, they design and create,
Each structure a masterpiece, a labor of fate,
But clients seek bargains, they negotiate,
Leaving architects burdened by a heavy weight.
Inadequate compensation, a constant refrain,
Their skills undervalued, causing heartache and pain,
While other professions in this economic chain,
Intrude on their territory, and the architect's gain wanes.
Other professions now step into the fray,
Charging less for services, leading the way,
The architect's role, it starts to decay,
Their lament echoes on this somber day.
But architects persist, their spirits won't wane,
They weather the storm, the financial strain,
For their love of design, it keeps them sane,
In the face of adversity, they rise again.
With courage and hope, they'll find their place,
In a world where their talent won't be effaced,
For Filipino architects, a resilient embrace,
Their art and passion, nothing can erase.
So let us support them for all their work,
Recognize their talent for all their worth,
For architects shape our cities and our abode,
In their design, our shared future is well endowed.
