Woe
Most rare diseases are genetic and appear early in life...30% of children with rare diseases will die before reaching their fifth birthdays
The winds of fate, so cruel and so cold,
Bring with them diseases, so rare and untold.
A burden so heavy, a pain so real,
For those who are affected, a constant ordeal.
The symptoms so strange, the pain so immense,
For those who are diagnosed, a short life of defense.
Against a body that rebels, against a mind in despair,
A struggle so deep, their battle to bear.
They suffer alone, in a world that's unaware,
Of the toll it takes, on both heart and care.
The physical hardships, the emotional weight,
For those who are fighting, a terrible fate.
Their parents and families, watch in silent tears,
As they see the struggle, the pain and the fears.
A fear of the unknown, a fear of the end,
For those who care for them, impossible to comprehend.
The appointments and treatments, the constant search for hope,
The endless search for a remedy, anything to help cope.
The daily struggles, the financial strain,
All of these take a toll, another hardship to explain.
But still they persist, with innocent grace,
A spirit so brave, for each day they must face.
Their resilience is inspiring, a beacon of light,
For all who know them, a shining respite.
A constant battle, with a body that betrays,
A journey that tests strength, every possible way.
Their families and friends, their rock and their guide,
As they navigate this journey, with support by their side.
The road is long, and it's anything but easy,
But they hold on to hope, and they continue to believe.
And though the journey may be filled with strife,
They know they are not alone, in this fight for their life.
But still the sadness lingers, a sorrow so vast,
For the pain and the struggle, for the future to last.
For the families who grieve, for the love that has died,
For the cure that may never come, and the tears they cannot hide.
So let us hug them close, and let us be kind,
For they too are suffering, as they watch their loved one fight.
Their love and their care, make all the difference,
In helping the afflicted, find laughter and balance.
So let us remember, and hold them so dear,
Those who fight the rarest of diseases, year after year.
And hold close the love, that helps them endure,
For a brighter tomorrow, and one day a cure.
