When you were tiny babies,
I knew the world would be so cruel.
I would imagine myself wiping your tears
and trying to mend your heart whenever I needed to.
I would wish that you would never get hurt,
even though it is inevitable that you will.
With every growing second, I became your safety net each time that you fell.
I prepared and prepared myself for tough times and talks.
I cleaned up scraps and iced up bruises
each time you climbed, ran, tripped or fell on your playful walks.
Every time you cry my heart breaks a little,
Even when you throw tantrums and the lessons still need to continue.
Giving birth to you was so painful, I thought for sure I would die before I pushed you out,
But if I was given a choice, I would do it again and again, without a doubt.
