What Went Wrong

By Earl W. PearlPublished 11 months ago Updated 11 months ago 1 min read

The vows some shared their wedding day

Weren’t ever meant to last

The very reason many stray

Before a year has passed

What does it mean, “Til death we part”

If neither one has died

Did such “commitment” even start

Can either say, “We tried”

Yes, what’s it mean, this wedding band

The circle of the ring

When pledging love on shifting sand

It doesn’t mean a thing

Why not a horseshoe, wishing luck

Since nearly half will fail

We’ll say, “I do,” and then, “You suck”

While screaming, “Go to hell”

Who calls this farce, “The wedding vows”

It’s more, “The wedding hope”

Whose love ideal does this espouse

If built upon a slope

The biggest reason for divorce

To mock and then disparage

Cheating is up there, of course

But number one, is “Marriage”

We should believe in marriage, yes

We should believe in love

I hate what God had meant to bless

We’ve made a shambles of

When we’re deciding, go or stay

When back and forth, between

Read this verse, then kneel and pray

Malachi 2:16

Really loved it. Vows mean nothing as situations change.
