Wishes
With Love to Henry, Johnnie Mae, and Robert

Wishes
I wish I knew then, what I know now.
Sometimes I wish that I could go back somehow.
If we’re not careful life will just pass us by.
And we’ll wish we knew then what we know now.
I wish I’d told my daddy what I really feel
And I wish that I’d gone out for track and field.
I wish that I would have seen myself how God sees me.
And I wish that I’d sooner let my heart breathe free.
I wish I had just one more day with my granddad.
That my grandmother was here to see her great grands.
I wish she could see we’re holding to God’s promise
That one day all her family, would be serving Him.
And when we cross that river to eternity,
All the wishes we hold to, no more will be.
Because a place in the Kingdom can’t be bought or sold.
And we can’t wish our way into the Shepherd’s fold.
But I still wish I knew then, what I know now.
Sometimes I wish that I could go back somehow.
If we’re not careful life will just pass us by.
And we’ll wish we knew then what we know now.
