Winter Wonder

A winter poem

By Jeannine StaplesPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

Winter Wonder

The colors of January, some might say,

Are nothing but brown and white and grey.

They think, "it's too cold to do anything fun

In these short winter days with less shining sun."

They might look outside and see just the wind blowing-

And perhaps miss the globe the world is when it's snowing.

Or the way the sun shines on a wide-open field

With a fresh blanket of snow- like diamonds to yield.

How the cold air refreshes as it kisses your cheeks;

The icy designs on our streams and our creeks.

The taste on your tongue of a fresh falling flake,

Or testing your weight on a large frozen lake.

The contrast of white and the cardinal, so red-

A pop of vivid color among brown trees that seem dead.

Snow on the eyelashes of kids filled with joy

As they make snowmen and angels- snow, the best toy!

The crunch of fresh snow beneath warm, booted feet;

Sledding then cocoa- there's no better treat.

The sound of the silence on a stormy winter's night-

Does there exist a more cozy delight?

The grey of these days is not the end of the story-

Because when the sun does shine- there is no better glory!
