Will you still love me when....
This question burns ever in my soul
For twenty years together we've been
But always this scary question creeps in
Will you still love me when
Will you, I wonder
As my heart beats loudly echoing like thunder.
You loved me when I looked ten years younger than my age
When my body was fifty pounds lighter
When my eyes sparkled and my lips smiled
When my words and deeds were meek and mild
When our passion burned deep and wild.
The thought crossed my mind even then
Will you still love me when...
Life changes?
I change?
You change?
We change?
When the passion wanes as we age
And we enter a stage of years of knowing
Years of growing
Sharing life, knowing strife,
Experiencing as much bad as good
Will you still love me? Do you really think you could?
Or will you find yourself wondering if you should?
When my bloom of youth has faded
Will your outlook of us be jaded?
Will you seek to fill your eyes with forms more appealing?
Will you desire more than a look and to be feeling?
Will you still love me when
Life has broken me?
When I can't find myself because I got lost in pleasing others?
When I push too hard to be successful in a job
Because I've found success no where else in life
And need something to make my life have meaning
Will you still love me then?
When I can no longer love myself
Because the pains and burdens of life drown me
Will you still love me then?
