Will You Not Dance With Me?
A Poet’s Inner Struggle
I prefer to write in rhyme and rhythm,
Following clear and definite rules.
I understand the metered system,
Taming words and poetic tools.
Oh free verse why do you taunt me
With your metaphores and deep descriptions?
I stare into an endless abyss,
Of unravelling thoughts
As though I may loose my grip
Altogether
of her heartbeat:
My sweet, sweet
poetry.
Bring me my ballad to dance with me!
Twirl me around in time and space,
Moving in tempo and leading me on,
In a predictable secure embrace.
In the quiet I hear the yearning still
To let every thought drift
As though in an ebbing tide of emotion:
Washing in and out.
Breathing, moving, forming.
Racing and charging forward with great speed.
Then still,
Soft,
Ever so quietly,
Oh free verse:
Will you not dance with me?

nice... so interesting
This is an amazing poem. You're very talented and I loved reading it!
Poetry is my temptress, my mistress, my forbidden love. I share my soul with it, and it shares the world with me.
Lots of fun playing with words in this poem. When you tap your feet while saying it out loud, you can hear the rhythm of words working together. You have put this poem together extremely well.
