Wild

The fire blazed

A trail provided by falling kings,

A monstrous beginning

To a war that would rage-

Man versus nature

As those armed with tools stepped forth

Creating plans

And dispersing knowledge-

A historic mind-field

Set by neighbor

And nature-

A tale of neglect

As the dying timber stood

Above a ground of kindling-

A stage set for disaster

That was overlooked

And overshadowed

By money chased

And bigger plans

Than care for a home

Provided by an ever giving Mother-

Despite repeated warnings

From the Sun and Wind-

The drying of the lifeblood

The pouring of the fuel-

A fire leapt forth

With the ferocity

Of a lover scorned-

Ravaging beauty,

Turning hope to ash

And tearing apart history

To create a new movement,

Rewriting words

To be remembered

A century away,

A list of names as heroes-

A collection of warning signs-

As Mother's rage

Stopped at back doors,

Surrounding community-

A flame asking

Are you awake now?

When we allow ourselves to believe that the world around us is simply a commodity for us to plunder & use, instead of recognizing our place & living in harmony with it, it will bite back. Once again, beautifully composed. Thank you for this.
