Why We Need Poets
Just a theory...
This is just another of my experiments and thoughts about what poetry can mean:
We never had
a poem
from the hands of
Jane Eyre.
The Wife of Bath
was too busy
to fill the world
with sonnets and odes.
Ophelia? Juliet?
Where are their lines?
Where are their
similes, metaphors,
metrical visions and rhymes?
Come to think of it,
we can also point
the heavy finger
at Janie Crawford,
Pippi Longstocking,
Blanche DuBois
(and all those Cleopatras).
Not one line of verse
hit the page from
those fateful hands,
and yet I can never say
that I regret one page
where their lives ran their way.
