Why We Dance

A Poem

By Nicole CaldwellPublished 3 years ago 1 min read

We rocked with the waves

when we were the sea.

We swayed with the breeze

when we were the trees.

We tumbled down hills

when we were the stones.

The music of Earth

still flows in our bones.

It calls us to move

and here is the key.

When we swish, sway, and play

it shifts energy.

So stomp to the drum

and swing with that tune.

It doesn't matter

how you move.

Just let go of judgement,

stiffness, and stuckness.

Embrace a freeing,

"Who gives a fuckness!"

Bask in the oneness

of this gift of motion.

Our souls' memory

of being the ocean.

Everything moves

in this great expanse.

Because, Love, we are

all made to dance.

Nicole Caldwell

I passionately share poetry of hope in our times.

Not blind hope, but the kind that burns no matter how strong the storm.

Through story and art, we burn brightly together.

I totally agree. A few years ago, I joined an aerobics dance class. In the past few years, our instructor, eased us from aerobics to just dance. Our team is called "The Dynamic Dance Team". It is definitely a vigorous workout, three times a week and all 35 of us love it. We dance to salsa, cha cha, waltz, rock, western .... all choreographed for line dancing. Yes, it sure is great fun to move with rhythm. Thank you for sharing this and allowing me to comment on your wonderful writing.
