Why today isn’t a Good Friday
A little spoken word
Clears throat.
Is this thing on?
I woke up today and thanked the Lord for today.
Not because it’s Friday and thats good, or because the stock market is closed and I’m sitting poolside with a copy of Margaret Atwood.
Today isn't Good Friday because I woke up with oxygen in my lungs or because theres a pillow resting under the head of my mom.
Today isn't Good Friday because my mental health is the best its ever been.
Or because my hands and feet can bend.
I can smell my coffee and the rain, and sometimes both at the same time.
For some- can’t do either.
Today isn't Good Friday because I can tell Alexa to change a song and Siri to make a call.
Or because modern innovations have advanced so far from under Alexander Graham Bells thumb.
And now we march in unison like bots to the song “ be prepared” from The Lion King -breeding artificial generations..
but thats okay, because ‘we like it’
Today isn’t Good Friday because all of the protests and charities you made, left little imprints of change.
Today isn’t Good Friday because freedom rings and old hymnals sing!
In an era where Caucasians and African-Americans coexist; my nieces are the result to this!
Today isn't Good Friday because women are free from corset to jeans or from having to beg please.
Or because the ringleader of human depravity imprisoning lions, tigers and brains released the strangulation of mans neck shackled by his chains.
Today isn’t Good Friday because we've travelled so far passed the time,
when having Jew-blood, black-blood or a vagina was a crime.
Today isn't Good Friday because I’m free from a DJ blaring “Tonights gonna be a good night” by the Black Eyed Peas.
Today isn’t Good Friday because tomorrow is Saturday or another birthday approaches next month, or because I’m fortunate enough to still give my mother a hug ..
and my father is free from the guns..
That he wanted to put to his head over and over again.
Today isn’t Good Friday because the vile sins that bled from my grandmothers hands that violated my 7-year old mothers frame can’t come with me to my grave!
It’s Good Friday because it can’t get passed me!
…my lineage now, stands redeemed.
Today is Good Friday because all the graveyards I’ll visit in this world will hold on to its corpse, with sweet embrace.
I cant wait to visit His tomb and cobwebs smack me in the face.
Today is Good Friday because
God. Is . Not. Dead.
And because that sweet morn, his heel pierced its head.

I just listened to Phil Wickham's song, this Friday's good cause "Sunday's Coming". All the while I was reading your poem, that song was in my head.
No God is not dead. Wonderfully powerful poem. Nicely Done!!

Wonderful!💖 I love the ‘millions’ of reasons that don’t mean it’s Good Friday. 🤣 So glad Jesus conquered sin and death… looking forward to celebrating Resurrection Sunday tomorrow at a Sunrise service! 🌝🦋
Fixed lol
Good work, but watch your apostrophes for the possessives!
