Why I Love

Why I Love
Photo by Jamie Street on Unsplash

There you are, coming at me again

Your power continuously drawing me in.

The taste of your love

Something that I can’t begin

To describe to someone who

Has never had it.

I want to walk away and be free

Instead I can’t get away from the thing that we

Know will end up killing me.

Your presence blinds me to the shame

The anger and pain

Of where my life had once taken me.

Your touch sends shivers

Of pleasure through me.

Your effect cuts through my memories

I find it extraordinary.

The need to forget

And help me sleep

Is what drew me in momentarily.

The promises kept

Of dreamless nights

Caught me up,

Hook, sinker, and line.

I want to drink you in

Until my life slips away

Because alcohol acts

Well…

As a lover to me.
