Why I Fit Better in the USA?
Then native India? It's about my freedom of decisions

I was thinking today—
it’s been 14 years of life,
as an immigrant,
in faraway continent.
Yes, I do feel nostalgic,
for native India, sometimes,
but I feel better-suited in the USA.
No, it has nothing to do,
with material things or amenities.
I don’t even use AC or room heater,
as season changes.
I love frugality, go foraging,
nature, learning, creativity—
they are my life philosophies.
So, when I say “better-fitting,”
I mean freedom of choice and voice.
India is still patriarchal,
and misogyny hides in plain sight.
Sons are preferred—
they don’t have to prove anything.
Girls must prove their worth
to gain even the approval,
of their own parents.
Boys are “legacy,” girls are "honor",
it's walking on eggshell horror.
Girls have to marry,
where the father decides.
If problems emerge later,
it's said, “It’s your destiny, daughter”,
I saw enough of that farce.
So, I chose mine,
and so far, so good.
I’m glad I took rein,
of my life decisions.
Respect for parents should be there,
but blind obedience? No.
Even I teach that to my daughter:
Defy me, if I’m wrong.
I will not kill her joy,
will let her grow own way,
What do you say?
