Why?… God and science collide.
……an existential poem.

I’ve been taught how to measure the stars,
how to count the grains of sand in my hand.
But I can’t quite grasp how it feels to be part of the whole,
to understand the sun and moon without the math,
without the formula, without the graph.
*
Science says, “This is the way, this is the why,”
it has its why’s, dressed in lab coats and alibis.
It’s all in the atoms, the cells, the code,
but what of the spirit, the soul we can’t decode?
*
What happens when the body breaks,
and the mind unravels in the silence it makes?
Does the essence fade with the flesh,
or do we linger, somewhere, beyond the test?
*
Science says, “This is how,”
it measures, it weighs, it defines now.
But what of the gaps, the holes in the sound,
the questions that don’t belong to the ground?
*
God’s how…..
Gives answers that I can feel.
It’s beyond the curve, the paradox, beyond the steel,
it’s a whisper in the wind, a touch in the dark,
a song sung in the silence, a spark in the heart.
*
See, God doesn’t explain in equations,
His how doesn’t fit the rational stations,
but it doesn’t mean it’s lost or unclear,
it’s just felt in the breath, the pulse, the fear.
*
God’s how is the light that won’t break,
the presence that sways with every step I take,
it’s not about proof, or the numbers we count,
it’s about the feeling, the knowing, the amount.
*
Science wants to tell me why, but i say stick to how,
God tells me why, through the low hum of now.
Through the mystery of stars, through the depth of the sea,
through the question, “Who are we to be?”
*
Science and God,
the made and the maker,
the broken and whole,
in science, in spirit, in every living soul.
The hows are different, but they’re all intertwined,
searching for answers, human and divine.
*
I don’t have to choose, I don’t have to divide,
science how and God’s how can live side by side,
because in the end, all our questions align,
seeking the truth in the dark and the divine.
*
Science says, “This is how,”
and I say, “But God, why?”
And somewhere in between,
we’ll find the answer to why we fly.
