Why didn't I do this before?

Sometimes it is appropriate to show appreciation for the little things in a piece of nonsense verse

Today was a day for big change.

A new horizon within my range.

I'd seen you before

Prostrate in the drawer

Your presence there proper, not strange.

*

I reach in and take you from there-

You savour the brightness and air;

I start to unwrap you

From all that surrounds you:

You're bristling and keenly aware.

*

I smother you, primed for the task

I need from you, though I've not asked

Your permission to place

Your body and face

Somewhere intimate and very much dark.

*

Now covered in beautiful blue

I wonder should I ask of you

Permission for this

As it's rather remiss

If you're not sure what you've got to do.

*

Waiting patiently will be new friends!

Lined up in the space end to end:

Bumper to bumper

In small fuzzy jumpers,

Cheering you when you get there.

*

Your softness is purely sublime

As it rubs up against me and mine;

You are firm with your touch

I enjoy it so much!

So smooth! And I feel so alive!

*

Why haven't I done this before?

You've been eager before to explore

And I've ignored you for days,

Living life in a haze,

Not seeing you there in the drawer.

*

Oh, toothbrush! Forgive me, I plead

For not having the sense to retrieve

You until now!

You must feel let down

Knowing your powers to clean!

*

I feel like a woman reborn!

My toothypegs, agéd and worn

Are all of a-buzz

Free of plaque's nasty fuzz

By toothbrush: meticulously shorn.

*

Thank you, toothbrush.

I was so impressed by the results from using a new toothbrush this morning that I felt compelled to write about it in a way that does the experience justice. I have made it fun with the choice of limerick for form but added an extra element of sensuality, just a little playfulness.

I'm not sure why I like to imbue inanimate objects with human qualities but I do feel for my toothbrush, entering a dark zone, possibly filled with stale air, dubious odours and nasty deposits which need shifting, never mind the ever constant presence of bacteria and its relentless attack! And, it's doing it with its face covered completely by something thick and opaque, smothered and with a strong smell of mint. I can't help but feel sympathy for it. Sometimes I startle myself with the way that my mind works.

Anyway, my teeth feel super smooth today, my tongue is positively buoyant and can't stop visiting its neighbours to say hello, and I can smile with confidence!

All is good in the world.

Thanks for stopping by and if you do read it, leave a comment as I do love to interact with my readers.

A round of applause for the toothbrush!

Dear RD ~ I could read into this with many of your so elegantly-crafted metaphors ~ But, of course I won't...Hmm! btw; I name everything, especially my cars. Just the other day my passenger asked me who I was talking to on the phone....I was just talking to my Macan, Ms. Millie. - So glad I know you and always relate to you - JB
