Why are artists so depressed?

Someone once asked me,

"Why are artists so depressed?"

I think the answer is tragically simple.

*

Each and everything you create keeps a piece of you,

Tiny little parts of yourself you'll never get back again.

The worst part is

We know this.

Every single artist is aware of the gaping holes left within themselves

Yet we continue to create and give

Because it's not about us or even the art for that matter,

It's about you, the viewers experience.

It's hard to explain to someone that's looking in from the outside.

But I guess,

To put it simply,

If my art could save just one person,

If my strung together phrases on a page could be a sign in the dark for someone else

Its worth it

To continue to give

Until nothings left.

Until every piece of myself  has been given

All I had to offer, and then some

I'll be hollow,

But just imagine all the people that will be whole.
