Why

a poem

By Slgtlyscatt3redPublished 7 months ago 1 min read

I have never believed war to be good,

I have never believed violence

to be the answer.

I have never been able

to truly shine

in this country.

I was never taken seriously enough.

When I wanted to do smart things,

I was told I wasn’t smart enough

to do them, so I quit.

Every man in my life

has betrayed me,

I have never known a man

that has never let me down.

I am 36 but inside my head

some days I still feel 13.

I have a sweet and kind heart

that does not understand why people

can’t just love one another.

I admire the brave and the daring

and the people that question

the system and stand up

for what’s right.

I believe in speaking up

and not holding back.

I believe in bravery

and love and passion

and resilience.

No one ever believed in ME,

but I’ve always believed in

everyone else. ❤️

Anne Marie believes in the beauty of the world, and the beautiful things this world could create. Anne Marie wonders why the world let her down, why the world decided that hate was better than love.

Can anyone tell me why?
