Whose the fairest of them all

The mirror lies

I’ve been looking in the mirror

And I keep talking to myself

Saying, why you always hafta

compare yourself to everybody else?

Slow down a bit, enjoy this ride

Why ya tryin to hurry to the other side?

All I ever wanted was someone to confide

My hopes my dreams my life

Instead I hurry up to wait

The first in line at a locked gate

I anxiously anticipate

that something’s gonna change

But It never does, it stays the same

until somehow it’s linked to pain

And then I have to rearrange

the way I operate

Stubborn to a fault, I guess

I always end up in some mess

Just stop, I suppose you’d suggest

If only I knew how

Pavlov sure had something right

For those of us with fight or flight

We struggle with the choice of wrong and right

depending on rewards

Pain or surprise, it seems is true

Is what it takes to get it through

to alter actions old and new

And the cycle goes again

So mirror mirror on the wall

Please don’t answer when I call

Just give a smile and that is all

Until tomorrow comes
