Whose Am I

When The Dreams Are Real

By Kelli Sheckler-AmsdenPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

my demons lie with me, restless on my bed

the fan moves the air cross' my legs

his voice - like a vice, strapped round' my head

for my sanity he makes me beg

he holds the keys to the thoughts I might say

grooming and creating their meanings

he never lets my opinions get in the way

he wanders around, while I am dreaming

he keeps track of the moments that I've gone a stray

making sure that I never stray long

redemption awaits, just a whisper away

punishment comes calling - for the headstrong

as I open my eyes he is gone again

all alone I am left in the dark

was it real or a dream, I say to myself

then, find his numbers carved into my arm

surreal poetry

Wonderfully sculpted. Here we are, all ready to accept it as a simple nightmare, & suddenly you pull a Freddy Krueger on us! Delightfully ominous!

You need a special light to illuminate that dark - wow that was good, really good!
