You drenched my purple heart in promises
you couldn't keep
you couldn't keep me
my stolen spine still heavy in your hands
don't keep me
can you hear my picotee vertebrae roll
across the floor
when you open my crepe letters each week?
bereft I sit in my sweat and trace the lines
on the palms of a man I thought I knew
who knows only how to take
lines so large I though I could see your heart
through them
what happens to a secret when you stop
keeping her?
oh, god,
who will keep me now?
