who pays?

is getting ahead top of your vocabulary?

did it cost a tuppence virtue

and all of your integrity?

was it just once way back when?

or is it repeated time and again?

is productivity the door you knock

regardless of what you’re forced to hock?

how many did you leave behind

on the path of addiction

controlling your mind?

did you ignore what’s sweet and pure

in favour of the rush you needed more?

When will you break,

When will you fall?

When will you look back,

and feel sorry for it all?

I agree with Mike. Although, not having to worry about money would be nice 😉. Nice work here. Really makes you think

  • A lot of thoughtful observations here, lots of people have to be on top or make money at any cost. I want to be happy in life and the things I do

  • Oooo, that certainly was thought provoking. Loved your poem+
