Who is That Woman in the Mirror?

Flying by like a tornado uprooting the years and flinging them...

Who is that woman in the mirror?

The one with the crow’s feet and wrinkled skin

Graying hair much more prevalent than before

I don’t recognize her, who is she?

Not the young, vivacious woman with bright, sparkling eyes

A spring in her step and a world stretching ahead of her

Exploring, traveling, marrying, and becoming a mother

Nurturing her goals, her dreams, her aspirations

What happened to that woman? Is she still here?

Yes, of course, behind the tired eyes and the lined skin

Remains the youthful, fun, (once attractive) lady

Her vigor may have been dampened oh so slightly

But she is still there, smiling, caring, and loving

Still nurturing with her gnarled hands worn from use

Stitching clothes, mending furniture, cooking, and baking

For her loved ones, the family that she cherishes

Is that woman smiling back at me really me?

Where did all those years go, childhood, adolescence, youth?

Flying by like a tornado uprooting the years and flinging them

Violently into the past, fleeting, unspoken, unseen

But now, as I slow down and succumb to growing older

I will never give in or give up as long as there is breath in me

For each new day that life brings, brings with it joy and love

All I have ever wanted, needed and been lucky enough to have
