She is someone that has been verbally, physically, & emotionally abused. She is someone who carried life only for that life to pass before her eyes. She is someone who’ll give an excuse for protection. Protection of happiness & pain. She is someone who was homeless & went hungry. So many things she was & still is.

She is a daughter, sister, mother, aunt, friend, black woman, & survivor.

The rain had started right around the time that Annie was buttering her second thick slice of homemade toast for breakfast, and hadn’t paused since. Not that anyone could tell.
