Who I am

With blood from all over the land

Huh, it's that month already?

It's that time of year?

Then while I'm here

Why not lend me Your ear?

I'll tell You a story

In poem form, no doubt

Humble beginnings are not all about glory

Mine might even make You angry and pout

Though Young, I've been through a lot, thick and thin

I've been through various degrees just for the color of my skin

Others would have me join them, someone new to fit in

Yet, I've learned to grow comfortable in the skin I'm within

It's weird to live on one planet, but in two worlds

Still, my individuation needs to unfurl

Though apart of many groups, I'm a culmination of others

I've descended from many fathers and mothers

Though You have not seen me for who I am

I can promise You that "I Am A Black Man."
