'Who am I?' a voice cries out
A face stares back at her
With tired eyes
Hair thrown up
Yesterday's clothes upon her frame
And a rumble in her gut
That's 'mum' they say
No time to stop
Lots to be done today
Feed the kids
Wash the clothes
Clean away the mess
Send that message
Change that nappy
And where's that blasted dress?
Mum I'm hungry
Mum I'm thirsty
Mum please play with me
Mum I'm hurt
Mum I'm scared
Mum please don't leave me
And mum smiles
Of course not my child
You are my everything
But inside she thinks
'Who am I?
I'm sure there's more to me
But without them I'm lost
No idea who I am
How do I find out?
The time will come I'm me again
And who is that going to be?'
