Sunlight spilled through the trees where I lay, my skin drying from the swim in the lake earlier.
This was where I wanted to be, alone and undisturbed, letting my thoughts wander like the clouds.
But a white blur caught the corner of my vision.
I ran over, seeing it was a white rose, admiring its beauty, every petal, every leaf perfect.
They were my favorite flower, their purity always filling me with hope.
Yawning as a sudden wave of drowsiness flooded me, I rested my head on the ground and dozed off.
When I woke, the sky was dark, and the rain poured on me, not stopping.
I went to touch the rose and got pricked, the rose turning blood red.
I looked at where I bled, black flooding my veins.
My throat constricted, and my eyes burned, knowing I was cursed forever more.
