White Out

Instructions for Disappearing

Instructions for Disappearing Challenge

White Out

Go somewhere busy

The train station at 8:00AM

On a Tuesday,

The grocery store at 4:00PM

The day before a holiday,

The mall

December 23rd at 6:00PM,

Stand in a thoroughfare

Stand still

Be a nuisance, in the way

Close your eyes tight

Tighter

You’re in Antarctica

Everything is white, blinding white

You’re alone, surrounded by freeze

Paralyzed in place

The only sound is that of a distant albatross

And the occasional creaking of the ice

As the sun begins to set

All the noises stop

It’s just you, in the white, in the cold

Into the black

Into the black

Into the black

And you’re gone.

I love the contrast between chaos and isolation!
