Deep in the Heart of Texas

I saw you from across the honkey tonk bar

I was chugging vodka from afar

I came and sat next to you, since that’s what my liquid courage said to do-

and I asked if you come here often.

No- you said and laughed-

Ah ha! He thinks I’m funny!

Maybe tonight I’ll take a chance since I am usually so chained to solitary.

We left and went to a house where we lost at a game of trivia-

to which I knew the answers none but I did notice when your fingers lingered on my leg some.

I drove you home and you kissed me at the stoplight. That got me to shut up. My constant babbling.

I don’t remember everything but I do remember this.

Oh ya I remember that kiss.

It was so sweet that it convinced me to say yes. Everything about this night- so hysterically cliché.

Like when you said do you want to come inside, when you asked if I’d like to stay.
