Which Door
By Cleve Taylor
Note the door on the right
It is open wide ready to welcome you
So long as you are obedient
And do as your leader says to do
Life can be good there
If led by a wise and benevolent king
But woe be your life if he be a scorpion
And you must bear his sting
The way to the door on the left
Is difficult, pitfalls and barriers impede
But it is the door to freedom
A place where you choose those who lead
Freedom can be harsh and bought with blood
Your chosen leader may not have the skill
To lead and protect your freedom
But as a free person you may replace him at will
Which door do you choose
A life determined by a king or tyrant's vagaries
Or a life defined by you and yours
Where success and failure in your hands be
My choice, it is not just for me
My choice is for my family
For my spouse and my children
And my grandchildren and their progeny
Wish us well!
