Top Story - December 2025

Penny's farm lost in a coin toss.

And the unborn foal she got as a result was born a gangly red colt with three white legs and a star and strip on his face. They named him Secretariat.

She had taken over Meadow Stable when her Dad got too sick to run it , and she was not greeted warmly because of her bold style and woman-ness in a sport dominated by men. Penney Chenery didn't march to the beat of any drum but her own courage.

She powered through the adversity thrown at her and the whispers behind her back and made that red colt a testament to perseverance and possibility. In 1973, Secretariat won the Preakness, the Belmont by 31 lengths, and the Kentucky Derby, breaking the time records for all three races with two still unbroken today.

"Big Red" was clocked at 47 mph, still the fastest horse in history. His stride was 24 feet and 11 inches long with an unbelievable stride angle of 110 degrees and he was powered by a 22 lb heart, more than twice the size of any other horse.

Take your "coin toss loss" and make it great. Look ahead from the here and now, not from where you came from and through. Don't look back to see where you are- Ron looked back to see how far ahead Secretariat had carried him. Did he relax and coast then? Nope. He let the red colt run, without interference, as a partner on a journey to greatness.

Life isn't a race, it's a journey. Speed is useless without nurturing guidance, and Trust is what keeps us between the rails. Faith keeps us from bolting out the gates of temptation and distraction that lead back to the world. Don't look back because that requires turning, and you're not heading in that direction so look forward for proper posture.

Don't let Unforgiveness put hobbles on your feet to slow you down. Fear, Shame and Guilt are false handicaps and just added weight. Lighten your load by dropping those burdens that are gradually and quietly heaped on you until you fall. Know who's for you and who isn't, and where the camouflaged serpents are hiding to avoid the sweet venom. Keep the world on the other side of the fence and know that at the end of your journey, the most beautiful pasture ever awaits you, where the Shepherd stands at the open gate.

Keep going strong until you get there. He will make possible your impossible.

Amen.

β€œBut Jesus looked at them and said, β€œWith men it is impossible, but not with God; for with God all things are possible.”Mark‬ ‭10‬:‭27‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
