Where Yesterday Still Breathes

Some roads stay alive in the heart

I keep returning to the road I should not take,

even though every sign tells me that time has closed that door,

the heart remembers more than it can break.

The dawn arrives, but grief will not awake,

it sleeps under the silence at its core,

I keep returning to the road I should not take.

I talk about healing just for the sake of it,

but the truth is softer, and it still hurts,

the heart remembers more than it can break.

You were the choice I chose, not a mistake,

yet losing you has left me wanting more,

I keep returning to the road I should not take.

No wise words can undo what we made,

no strength I borrow can bring back what we had before,

the heart remembers more than it can break.

So here I stand with memories that are hard to see through,

still following the paths the shadows once found,

I keep returning to the road I should not take,

the heart remembers more than it can break.
