Where the Music Sleeps

Candles and Circuits

This is a quiet celebration of digital intimacy, flickering flames, and the small things that help us rest.

---------------------------------------

There is pleasure

in the static hush of earbuds,

a lullaby stitched with synthetic strings,

glitchy harmonies tucked into my ribs.

Her breath is curled like smoke,

dream-laced and heavy with release—

no secrets here,

only the small exhale of

letting go.

I watch her sleep.

Her fingers twitch in micro-reveries.

The red console at her side pulses faintly,

a flame of silicon longing.

There’s warmth in the false light,

a battery-fueled echo

of something older—

maybe a hearth,

maybe touch.

Candles, real ones,

thrum beside her like slow heartbeats,

melting their waxy regrets

onto etched glass.

Flames stretch and bow

like dancers unsure of the rhythm,

waltzing to the playlist

of a life paused mid-scene.

Pleasure is this room—

a baroque cave spun from wires,

pillows, velvet ache,

and the muffled glow of an app

still open on the home screen.

No alarms.

No messages.

Only me and the sleepfire

burning between walls of patterned dusk.

I’m not jealous.

I’m not scared.

I just understand it better now:

how to burn gently,

how to be held

by something that doesn’t need

to be real to feel holy.

There’s passion

in the mundane,

in her hair tangled in headphone cord

like a vine around soft ruin.

There’s something deeply human

in this digitized peace—

a truth hummed quietly,

like static after a song ends,

or the hum of forgotten notifications

fading out.

I am her friend.

The quiet kind.

The one who knows when to step aside,

to let shadows cradle her

while I light the path back.

She doesn’t need me

to fix,

to rescue,

to explain.

She only needs

this space—

where tension slips off like silk,

where even pain

whispers in low fidelity.

Well-wrought! Music is my daily companion, though I prefer it to buttress the excruciating boredom of chores!
