Where's the off switch?

Where is the off switch?

You'd think it'd be obvious

It's not in the instructions

It's not in the illustrations

Where is the off switch?

It's usually easy to find

Maybe I'm defective

and need to be sent back

I've looked everywhere

On top

underneath

on the front

On the back

There is no off switch

In the manual

It says, "Keep on at all times"

So

there is no off switch

No way to shut me off

No way to stop my brain

Processing and collating,

projecting and instigating

Initiating and devastating

No off switch

No way to shut me off

No way to stop my heart

beating and pumping

feeling and trying

hurting and harming

no off switch

Just sleep and standby mode.

I've spoken about this before, but sometimes wish there was an on/off switch on me. Oh well!

There is, Paul, but it tends to be permanent & greatly frowned upon (illegal, even). As with Donna, I too can relate.

This is so relatable Paul, I love the premiss of this and find myself wishing the same thing often! Even a reset button would welcome at this point! 😅

This poem is a great description of my brain, lol 😂

Heck, I'd settle for volume and tone controls.

Off switch would be great, or even restart. Well said.

  • Hi Paul, do you wanna sleep forever? 😈 Lol, jokes aside, this was very relatable. I always wish I can just off myself to escape reality. Wait that sounded suicidal. Oh no, Paul, are you suicidal?!

Surreal poetry indeed. I love the metaphor here. And I can relate. I think all writers can. What has helped me is to meditate in motion on my walks (because my brain can’t slow down when I sit still, I have to distract it by doing things). Then, I just let all the thoughts flow to the surface. It’s really great. I get ideas, and I sleep like a baby with whiskey slipped into their warm milk.

So good and so true. Can't even get a break when we sleep because of dreaming 😴😒

''feeling and trying, hurting and harming, no off switch'' my favorite lines. Amazing work as always.
