Where Nightmares Dwell
True Identity Still Smells Sweet

The night collects
Outside my door
Usual suspects
keeping score
Gathering fear
Mistrust and more
There’s no quiet here
Where whispers roar
The shadows call me
By my name
Tricking, pretending
We’re the same
A never ending
Playful game
Crawling in and out of dreams
Instilling dread
While reason creeps
Leaving my head
Stealing my peace
Awakening
As nightmares seep
Under my bed
Where dues are reaped
While I am awake
Monsters invade
Reveal mistakes
Shading my face
The daylight finds me
Half awake
Still caught in Dreams
That nightmares make
Counting the hours
Till shadows wake
Conjuring powers
From our mistakes
I No longer cower
Shiver or quake
A vining flower
By other names

This is excellent. I love the flow and the power of the words. Well done.
I like the gothic feel of this one and the creepy image with it!
You have created some lasting images with this one, Kelli. Your use of dreams and nightmares as metaphors for love’s challenges and heartbreaks is very powerful!
Agree with Mother Combs on this one it is quite inspirational for you are an inspiring poet person.
How can something be so heartbreakingly beautiful and inspirational?!!!💙Love this
