Where Does the Wind Come From?

Where does the wind come from,

That frightens my mam at night?

It howls through cracks in the old, thin walls,

A shadow that hides from sight.

Does it rise from the distant hills,

Where the trees bend low and sway?

Or drift from the depths of a restless sea,

Carrying whispers of far-off decay?

It taps at the windows, rattles the doors,

A voice that cannot be tamed.

Its mournful wail, a song of the lost,

Yet no face, no form, no name.

I sit by her side, her hand in mine,

As the wind roams wild and free.

And I wonder if it’s a ghost of the past,

Or just the night’s mystery.

“My mam said she thinks God sends it,

To blow away our sins.

A cleansing breath from the heavens above,

To let new days begin.
