When your body fails you

Nothing is worse than your body betraying you,

When your heart wants to run

But your bones refuse

When the fire in your stomach begs you to move mountains

But all you can do is look up to them,

The feeling we all must feel someday,

The limits of the body we are in

For some it comes early

struck down before we can feel truly powerful

Others it will come with age

you feel your muscles go weak as you start to succumb to drift of death

For few it will happen like a firework

Snapped like a twig

And robbed from you like it was nothing more than a candlelit flame,

Yet I feel like an old man despite,

My candle long since burned to nothing, I beg to join my comrades but with no answer,

Forced to sit and watch as they smile with flames in their hearts

Forced to watch them run into the future I wanted,

Forced to reminisce about the body I never had,

About the fear I now felt,

The body can refuse the mind at any moment,

And mine has failed me,
