Things Behind Things

The mystery behind your eyes holds stories I do not wish to conquer or dominate but rather to know

The face hides many things; people are always hiding, but not you

No, in all of your allure and grandeur, you stood there in a fixed position

Look at the moon and its many phases, a gentle reminder as we sing God’s praises

I often fumble my words in your presence, knowing that to see you fully, I must first see myself

Without judgment or disdain, without scorn or remorse– bones and all

You taught me how to see in a way I never knew was possible

That is why I keep silent, observing is more than enough

The sonnets of birdsong echo over mountaintops as we watch on and embrace

Fully surrendered to what is, what was, and what will always be

Until then, I will go on and embody this present moment with sincerity
