When Walls Don’t Answer
Echoes return louder than footsteps

I spoke
just once
to the wall
Soft
like I expected
an answer
It gave me
an echo
like a cruel
mimic
You’re not here
I know
But still
I talk
because silence
won’t explain
what happened
Your coat’s
still on
the hook
Your voice
still rolls
in certain corners
like perfume
that never fades
But the room
is tired
The air
is still
The wall
has memorized
my grief
It doesn’t
talk back
but it knows
I never said
goodbye
not really
I only
let you
walk
without asking
when you'd
be back
