When Truth Becomes Inconvenient

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 3 months ago 1 min read

[Verse 1]

I used to think the truth would set us free

A light that cuts through every mystery

But now I see it’s not so black and white

Some turn away when truth disrupts the night

[Pre-Chorus]

It’s easier to hold what feels like home

Than face the facts that shake the cornerstone

[Chorus]

When truth becomes inconvenient

We build our walls, we stay obedient

To stories that we want to hear

Even if they’re soaked in fear

We trade the mirror for a mask

And never stop to even ask

What if the truth was never meant

To be convenient?

[Verse 2]

I’ve watched the facts fall on deaf ears

Drowned out by comfort, pride, and fears

They say “I know what’s real, don’t preach to me”

But truth don’t bend for your identity

[Pre-Chorus]

It’s easier to fight than to let go

Of myths that make the world feel less unknown

[Chorus]

When truth becomes inconvenient

We twist the tale, stay lenient

To voices that confirm our view

Even when they’re far from true

We burn the bridge, we dim the light

And call it wrong when it feels right

What if the truth was heaven-sent

But not convenient?

[Bridge]

It’s not a dagger, not a curse

It’s not a sermon, not rehearsed

It’s just a whisper in the wind

Asking us to start again

But starting over takes some grace

And not everyone wants to face

The cost of waking up

[Final Chorus]

When truth becomes inconvenient

We shut it out, stay obedient

To comfort dressed in sweet disguise

To echo chambers, lullabies

But truth still knocks, it won’t relent

It’s not cruel — just evident

And maybe it was never meant

To be convenient

[Outro]

So I’ll keep walking through the haze

With open eyes and quiet praise

For truth that dares to be unbent

Even when it’s inconvenient
