Lovelace, Byron’s daughter, AI’s basal mother

Was stifled by cancer in 1852

Nietzsche ran out of time in 1889

Yet he only expired in 1900

Ball, first woman, first African American

To school leprosy, crossed out in 1916

Ramanujan, a brilliant mathematician

Consumed by dire disease until 1920

Curie’s radiation 1897

Had finally killed her in 1934

Freud ran fast for his life in 1938

Committing suicide in 1939

Turing persecuted in 1952

Took a poisoned apple in 1954

We are all here because of scientific discovery and all the scientists who kicked the world to advance the ball towards our betterment. Many died needlessly, whether from a disease not yet curable, or some unfortunate circumstances due to their contemporaries’ ignorance.

Whoever despises science, despises the truth. Whoever diminishes science to elevate anything else, diminishes the truth. Science is not a religion. Please, make sure that you understand! Whoever holds otherwise, has not understood what science is. Science renders the Moon, my muse, the Sun, my friend, the stars, the atoms from which we have been made. Life is shorter than a blink of an eye of a star that died long ago.

It sickens me to think science needs defending, but that's where we are. Great piece.
