When the Sky Forgets Its Weight

"floods"

The rain arrived without a pause,

Thick as sorrow, cold as fear.

Clouds tore open all at once,

And the earth could not endure.

Rivers rose like broken vows,

Spilling homes into the night.

Streets became unending seas,

Swallowing doors, swallowing light.

Beds floated where children slept,

Photographs drifted away.

Lives were packed in plastic bags,

Hope was thin by endless gray.

Walls collapsed like tired prayers,

Roofs gave in to water’s hand.

Countries wept beneath the storm,

Drowned by skies they couldn’t command.

Bare feet stood in muddy loss,

Counting all that could not stay.

A lifetime built with patient hands

It was washed in hours.

Mothers held the shivering dark,

Fathers stared at the empty ground.

Silence screamed where laughter lived,

No safe place could be found.

They lifted eyes to a weeping sky,

Voices trembling, raw and sore.

“God of mercy, hear us now,

We cannot carry this anymore.”

“Spare the weak, remember the lost,

Calm the waters, still the pain.

Let tomorrow find us breathing

Beyond the ruin left by rain.”

And though the floods erased their paths,

Faith clung like a fragile flame.

For even when the world is drowning,

Hope still whispers God’s name.
