Ecstasy

When The Scent Remembers

The crackle of the needle, as it falls into a groove

Your skin against my skin, as you begin to move

The scent left in the air, as the rain still hangs around

The silence in the room, as my dress falls to the ground

The look of sweet surprise, that you flash me from your eyes

The soft and gentle way you breathe, between your heavy sighs

The way your body feels, as it’s pressing against mine

The sheer and utter bliss, of our bodies intertwined

Some things just can't be defined, they hold a meaning all their own

Like the memory of you and I, when my skin wears your cologne

The last line is my favourite! Such a beautifully crafted poem!

  • Joelle is absolutely right. This makes me think of the scene toward the end of "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" where the friend's boyfriend (who had broken up with her) drops by the apartment & tells her that the scent of her perfume on the pillow is gone & he misses it. What you have described as well as what you've intimated but left unsaid is so visceral..., so much so that I want to know what's playing on the stereo/record player.
