They shared the world,

as if the sky had borders.

Hands drew invisible lines,

and hearts began to forget each other.

Children learned flags before dreams,

and the rivers stopped singing.

The wind carried names of cities

but forgot the name of love.

Still, you old moon

you never chose a side.

You kept shining over broken lands,

a quiet witness to our confusion.

Tonight I write nothing,

I only listen

to the pulse beneath your silence.

Maybe,

when the dust settles,

we’ll remember how to breathe again.

Maybe,

light will no longer be something we steal

from the dark.
