When Our Leaves Dry Up and Our Branches Crack
Our Foundations Can Keep Us Alive

Like a strong tree with roots held tight,
Our lives need grounding to weather the night.
From Parents and Mentors, our foundation grows,
Deep in the soil, our source of water flows.
Branches reach outward to face the world’s air,
Leaves spread widely to all that waits there.
When sunlight fades, or dark storms draw near,
Our spirits may droop, weighed down by fear.
Adverse winds make our branches sway,
Leaves may crumble and fall away.
But roots stay steady, loyal and true—
They hold us firm and pull us through.
For when the rain returns, and skies turn bright,
New branches rise in the warm, kind light.
But neglect your roots, and strength will depart—
A tree cannot stand without its heart.

I love this! The tree metaphor is so calming and meaningful.
