Memories drift like clouds in the sky,
Moments of laughter, a whispered goodbye.
When I close my eyes, I hear the seas,
When I close my eyes, I feel the breeze.
The wind tells stories I cannot forget,
Of dreams I’ve chased and ones unmet.
When I close my eyes, I see the light,
When I close my eyes, darkness turns bright.
Faces of loved ones, warm and near,
Echoing love I hold most dear.
When I close my eyes, fear disappears,
When I close my eyes, courage appears.
The heart beats freely, no chains, no ties,
A world of wonder, limitless skies.
When I close my eyes, I find my way,
When I close my eyes, night turns to day.
Each breath a journey, each dream a flight,
A soul awakened in the still of night.

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
