When Cancer Takes

Cancer took my dad and left a family broken,

Hearts split open, tears we drown in,

Tears fall so frequently we cannot count them,

we are drowning in pain from broken hearts.

Underneath that grief it kept on taking,

My niece, my nephew, taken far too soon,

Laughter silenced in a way that still hurts,

Names we carry every single day.

It took my brother in law,

It took my sister in law,

Too many losses that cut so deep.

leaving holes in hearts that never close.

It even took my ex husband,

A chapter ended with unfinished words,

History still aches when it is torn away,

Loss does not ask who we are anymore.

Cancer is wicked, it does not choose gently,

It storms through love and calls it fate,

It leaves us counting names instead of days,

Trying to breathe through another goodbye.

We carry their names inside our chests,

Like weight we never put down,

Tears keep falling, yes we drown in them,

Because love never learned how to leave.

Our family walks forward scarred but standing,

Broken hearts still beating through the pain,

Cancer took so much it cannot be measured,

Yet it did not take the love that remains.

It also took so many friends,

Cancer is wicked, so very wicked,

We fear you so much.

Oh no. Sad to hear this, Marie. Condolences.

  • Rest in Peace, your father. Love and Light are Might. Hugs to your Healing Heart. Hopefully, you can see with the eye of the heart and open up more to others with luminous compassion. Blessings to your family. My father also died of cancer. Take care !
